Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling and SRM power up technical partnership

Women’s pro cycling team, Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling and power training specialist, SRM Training Systems, have formed a technical partnership for 2013.

With a mandate to deliver real wages for women cyclists, the addition of online cycling retailer Wiggle.co.uk to the women’s cycling team, in a 3-year deal, was confirmed in December 2012. The team’s addition of its major new sponsor was seen to ‘provide female cyclists with a greater share of the economic benefits that have for years only gone to the men.’

Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling was founded by team manager/owner and 2010 Commonwealth Games Gold medallist, Australian Rochelle Gilmore.

The Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling team joins an elite group of teams that receive SRM Training System’s exclusive support. The technical partnership embodies the team’s philosophy of optimal rider support so they can reach their potential, and the SRM Training System provides the team with some of the best tools and technology available.

The Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling riders will receive tailored ‘Wiggle Orange’ PowerControl 7 computers that will allow athletes to access real-time data and review the wirelessly transmitted data from their SRM accessories.

SRM Training System has been a long-time supporter of Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling team owner and rider Rochelle Gilmore, and this partnership is seen as a natural extension following the formation of Gilmore’s new team.

“SRM Training System and I both share mutual ambitions to offer athletes the most advanced and accurate equipment to assist them in reaching their potential and goals in cycling,” Gilmore said.

“I founded the Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling Team with the philosophy of offering our athletes the best equipment and support structure possible; this technical partnership with SRM Training System is strengthening this vision by providing our riders with the ultimate scientific products.”

Uli Schoberer, owner of SRM, believes that the unique team environment Gilmore has created will play an integral role in its success.”The Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling team expresses the ambition, style, and vision that will cultivate success,” said Schoberer. “SRM is excited to support such a program and looks forward to the development and positivity this program will bring to the sport of professional cycling.”

In close collaboration with the Campagnolo design team and engineers, SRM has developed a unique PowerMeter and crankset combination capable of delivering accurate and precise data while ‘maintaining the superiority and classic aesthetics of the Campagnolo brand.’

The SRM Campagnolo PowerMeter has been race tested and approved by Team Omega Pharma-Lotto. During the 2011 season the team trained and competed with the SRM Campagnolo Training System, contributing valuable data and feedback on the exclusive system. In addition, Philippe Gilbert and André Greipel won several races including stages of the 2011 Tour de France riding the SRM Campagnolo Training System.

The design team at SRM combined rider feedback with research and testing, resulting in a claimed enhanced accuracy of ± 1.5 %. An improved strain gage design, circuit components and manufacturing process are all important factors in SRM’s continuing innovation.
