Marie Curie Cancer Care has confirmed its official charity partnership with Human Race for the Wiggle Tri Challenge, Lidl Banaman Triathlon and Diamond Tri events taking place at Dorney Lake – the Olympic rowing venue for the 2012 games.
Participants in these events will be encouraged to fundraise for the charity to help maintain vital support for people with cancer.
As noted by the charity, given the choice, most people would want to die at home, surrounded by the people they cherish. Marie Curie Cancer Care makes this possible. By joining the Daffodil Team, participants can help Marie Curie nurses continue to provide free hands-on care to terminally ill patients and support for their families.
When triathletes sign up to become part of the Daffodil Team they will not only receive a Nike Dri-FIT running vest, but also advice on how to smash fundraising and training targets. Marie Curie will also have a team of cheerers on race day to give fundraisers that extra encouragement. Plus, those who bank more than £350 by race day will be able to collect an Endura cycle jersey from the Marie Curie marquee on the day of the event.
Marie Curie nurses give free hands-on care to people with all terminal illnesses in their own homes and vital emotional support to their loved ones. They allow families to make the most of the precious time they have left together.
But the sad fact is, every five minutes someone in the UK dies without the care they need at the end of their life. That’s why the charity urgently needs to reach more people – and the Marie Curie team is counting on the support of the UK tri community.
