Let’s Tri is a brand new triathlon, duathlon and aquathlon series in Mallorca. The series aims to offer all kinds of athletes a new approach to the sport of triathlon in Spain’s sunny Balearic Islands… ‘full of fun and perfect for all skills/levels, from beginners to top endurance triathletes, the whole year round.’
A number of high-quality events are located in picturesque spots in Mallorca throughout the year. Let’s Tri is organized by Kumulus, a local sports event company based in Mallorca with extensive expertise. The company is the local organiser of Ironman 70.3 Mallorca, the Tui Mallorca Marathon and Triathlon Portocolom amongst other notable events.
With a focus on high quality event delivery and maximising the athlete experience, Let’s Tri will major on attracting foreign participation from the rest of Europe and beyond.
The first tri race of the season got under way on 8-9 June via the popular Triathlon Sprint Ciutat de Palma (in the city centre of Palma). The next series event will be on 27 July – the Aquathlon CN Arenal in the well-known triathlete/swimming international training centre of El Arenal. This is followed by the Triathlon de Pollença, on 28 September, which is the flagship of the Let’s Tri series, with ‘a demanding and beautiful course’.
The 2014 season will start early on 8 March with the Duathlon Palma de Mallorca – followed by a number of events in the pipeline for next year.
Mallorca is an ideal location to host the first events of the Let’s Tri series. The organisers note that triathlon is building momentum in Europe and the Ballearic Island is a key training and racing destination where German, Austrian and British athletes in particular descend on the Spanish island throughout the year.
Whether for long training sessions or just to have perfect conditions to race, Mallorca and the Let’s Tri series offer a wide range of events, ‘just for fun or for performance, for beginners and for experienced and top athletes who love to compete in awesome natural settings and demanding courses.’
The new series officially started with two duathlon events (Ciutat de Palma and Binissalem) earlier this year. Then in early June, the popular Triathlon Sprint Ciutat de Palma kicked the tri action into gear.
Over 2,000 triathletes are expected to race at least one of the Let’s Tri events this year.
The next event, the Aquathlon at Nautic Club CN Arenal on 27 July, is set in the lovely bay of Palma de Mallorca. On 28 September, Triathlon de Pollença will be hosted in the village of Pollença, located in the north of the island, arguably the most beautiful natural area of Mallorca. This is seen as a perfect venue for a demanding bike course, similar to that of the Ironman 70.3 Mallorca event.
Athletes can sign up for the entire series, at a special discounted price, or just pick one or some of the events of their choosing. Let’s Tri 2014 will start early in March with the well-known Duathlon de Palma de Mallorca… ‘with a professional set up and a perfect date for international athletes to start the season after several days or weeks of training in Mallorca and before other big international triathlon events such as Triathlon de Portocolom or Ironman 70.3 Mallorca.’
