Human Race – the UK’s leading mass participation sports event business with over 50 events in an expanding portfolio – is looking for an Operations Manager. The role requires a driven individual to deliver events to a high standard across the company’s portfolio including running, swimming, cycling and triathlon.
Purpose of the role:
- To manage the delivery of events within the Human Race portfolio and to ensure that events are delivered to a high specification, therefore continuing to uphold the company’s reputation in the marketplace.
- To ensure that each event is planned and organised in advance to facilitate a smooth and efficiently run event on the day.
- To ensure that each event adheres and complies with health and safety requirements.
- To help to research and develop new event concepts and venues
Main responsibilities of the job and key duties:
- To organise and manage a number of events within the existing Human Race portfolio at Event Director level.
- To produce all required event documentation including, but not limited to, route maps, site plans, operations manuals, health & safety documentation, staff responsibilities, traffic management plans etc.
- To manage the relationships required to ensure the success of an event e.g. with venues, councils, suppliers, SAG etc.
- To ensure that all permissions, risk assessments etc are completed and submitted in a timely fashion.
- To manage the event site and route throughout set up, event day(s) and break down; including managing all infrastructure, suppliers, and personnel.
- To ensure the events adhere to safe working practices and procedures, documenting and communicating those practices where necessary.
- To take the lead on site and brief and manage the event day crew.
- To identify opportunities to improve operational and service methods and procedures.
- To assist in the management of all Human Race equipment both on site at events and in storage throughout the year.
- To manage suppliers to ensure that they provide an efficient and effective service whilst staying within budgeted limits.
- To liaise with the Marketing and Customer Service departments to ensure all relevant information is communicated.
- To manage event budgets and report to the Senior Management Team where required.
- To assess new venues / routes for events and to work with the Senior Management Team to identify new event opportunities and concepts.
Key relationships:
- With the Operations Director, Senior Operations Manager & the rest of the Operations Team to ensure the successful delivery of events.
- With Event Day operations staff and crew.
- With all event stakeholders such as venues, councils, SAG members, residents and businesses, participants, contractors, volunteers etc.

Relevant experience for the role:
- 2 + years’ experience of organising mass participation sports events at either Operations Manager or Event Director level.
- Proven ability to work with efficiency, flexibility and good humour.
- Team player, resourceful and with an ability to work using own initiative.
- Clear, efficient and effective decision making skills.
Other significant role requirements (any other factors which have a bearing on a candidate’s ability to perform):
- A car owner + driver (full driving licence).
- Willing to work weekends & unsociable hours, including staying away from home.
- Confidence to drive a van.
- A love of sport, particularly running, swimming, cycling, triathlon and an energetic disposition.

Qualifications:
- To degree level

Salary:
£28k per annum
