The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the recently launched ITU World Triathlon Cape Town has announced that, out of respect for the former President Nelson Mandela and the 10 Days of Mourning, the intended date of entries opening previously announced as 10 December 2013 would be delayed to 17 December 2013.
The ITU World Triathlon Cape Town is the first World Triathlon Series event to be held on African soil and is a weekend Festival of Sport scheduled for 26-27 April 2014 at the V&A Waterfront Cape Town. The event will showcase South Africa’s and the world’s best elite athletes racing each other over the Olympic distance of a 1500m swim, 40K cycle and 10K run.
As with other ITU World Triathlon Series (ITU WTS) events, the new South Africa event is very much about the masses competing on the same stage as the world’s best. Entries will open on 17 December 2013 for the Sprint and Olympic distance for individuals and teams.
The World Triathlon Cape Town race will serve as the second stop on the, now, eight-city tour, which kicks off in Auckland on 5-6 April. Cape Town is one of only two cities to debut on the ITU WTS calendar in 2014, with Chicago also hosting an event for the first time.
Age groupers will have the option to choose between a standard Olympic distance course or hone their speed skills on a sprint course. Standard and sprint distance team relays are also on the schedule, offering a race for all abilities.

In addition to the main age group events, athletes will be treated to a weekend full of festivities; including sundown concerts, a race exhibition, kids & family races.
