Xtra Mile picks up speed with new Rhyl Sprint Triathlon Festival next June

Xtra Mile Events has announced the launch of the Rhyl Sprint Triathlon Festival, following the inaugural Rhyl Triathlon in 2013. Taking place on Sunday 1 June 2014, this is the latest event to hit the UK triathlon scene, featuring closed roads and a fast, criterium style cycle leg along the seafront in Rhyl, North Wales.

Entrants can choose from 3 distances: Sprint (750m swim/ 21K cycle / 5K run), Super Sprint (400m / 15K / 2.5K) and Mega Sprint (100m / 10K / 1K), making it accessible to athletes of all levels.

The open water swim will be held in Rhyl Marine Lake with transition on the quayside, followed by multiple cycle laps up and down the closed road circuit on West Parade along the seafront. Competitors will finish with a run along the beautiful, new promenade past the new Pont Y Ddraig Bridge.

Rhyl Marine Lake is seen as a superb venue for a triathlon festival offering top class facilities, a clean, sheltered environment for the swim as well as family entertainment.

“The criterium style cycle leg will give spectators the chance to closely witness the excitement of the cycle, and we will be expecting large crowds and quality racing in Rhyl next June.”

As announced recently, all Xtra Mile Events triathlons, including the Rhyl Sprint Triathlon Festival, feature women’s only waves.

Entry costs for the Rhyl Sprint Triathlon are £50 for individual entries or £60 for team relay entries. The swim waves will start between 08:00 and 10:00 GMT and entries close on 28 May 2014 or when sold out.

Other events in the Xtra Mile Events portfolio taking place in North Wales include the Ffit Conwy Llandudno Sea Triathlon on 29 June 2014 and The Eirias Standard Distance+ and Middle Distance+ on 9 August 2014.

Xtra Mile’s first event in the New Year is the brand new ASICS Oulton Park Half Marathon & 10K on 23 February 2014.
