The Performance Edge: Muscle & Fitness mag offers strength guide for cyclists

A new low cost guide to strength and power training called ‘The Performance Edge’ written specifically for cycling enthusiasts has been published by the renowned training and nutrition magazine, Muscle & Fitness.

Costing £2.49, the 24-page publication is designed to teach serious cyclists how to improve endurance and performance through a ‘programme of scientifically proven strength and power based training methods.’

The document offers up a comprehensive strength and power training guide for cyclists (primarily geared for off-season/winter training). The author, Andy Smith, is a well respected and accomplished strength & conditioning coach. He has a Masters degree in Strength and Conditioning from the University of Edinburgh; and he has collaborated with Muscle & Fitness mag for a number of years.

Writing in The Performance Edge, Andy Smith notes that…

‘The aim of strength training is to improve or maintain a muscle’s ability to produce maximal force, which may be something that most people associate as being more beneficial for sports such as rugby and judo or in sprint running and cycling events, but not necessarily for endurance events.

However, there are some excellent performance gains that may be realised by endurance cyclists in incorporating a structured strength training programme into their training regime.’

The guide includes a 12 and 26 week cycling specific weight training programme to develop strength off the bike, and a matching power based programme to help cyclists ride faster for longer.

Available for immediate download from the Muscle & Fitness website at muscle-fitness.co.uk/specialreports, this latest sport specific guide to strength training is viewable on any device (with a PDF reader) and can be purchased safely and securely via PayPal.
