Competitor Group restructures team & ceases Inside Triathlon

Competitor Group Inc (CGI), the leading active lifestyle sports media and event entertainment company, has the wheels in motion on a new restructuring with a number of key senior appointments. This follows a management shake-up at the company in December 2013.

Meanwhile, in tandem with the new appointments, Competitor Group – publisher of Triathlete and Inside Triathlon magazines – has announced the company’s strategic decision to cease production of Inside Triathlon. The move to close Inside Triathlon ‘reflects a deeper dedication to building the Triathlete brand and a rechanneling of resources for the development of new initiatives and special projects, both digital and with print.’

With the arrival of the final March/April issue of Inside Triathlon to mailboxes, subscribers will automatically begin receiving Triathlete, and existing subscribers will have their subscriptions extended.

The latest senior appointments at CGI are as follows:

  • Josh Furlow has been named Executive Vice President of Global Events, overseeing CGI’s North American and International event divisions. Furlow was previously Senior Vice President of Operations at CGI.
  • Tim Dunne is now Senior Vice President of CGI and remains General Manager of Race IT based out of CGI’s office in Richmond, Virginia.
  • Dianne St John has been promoted as Vice President of Human Resources, continuing in her long-term role overseeing all human resource functions for CGI. She will become a member of the company’s Senior Management team.

“These are important appointments for CGI as each individual brings extensive experience and leadership that will help us drive our company moving forward,” said Paul Walsh, Chairman and Interim Chief Executive Officer at CGI. “I look forward to working with Dianne, Tim, Josh and the rest of our Senior Management committee to strengthen and grow our core business units as a world-class media and event company.”

Prior to joining CGI, Josh Furlow served as the Vice President of Planning & Operations for AEG Sports where he managed the global operations, vendor relations, budgets and the TV Broadcast for The Amgen Tour of California, the largest cycling race in the United States.

During his tenure with AEG, Furlow managed many events such as Stars On Ice, AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour and the World’s Toughest Cowboy Rodeo as well as many other Live Touring events worldwide.

Prior to joining CGI in 2013, Tim Dunne was the as most recently the COO and Managing Director (US/EMEA) for Lavastorm Analytics, a global business analytics software company. His 25-year career includes executive roles at Nextlink Wireless, RCN Corporation, Nextel Communications and Bell Atlantic/Verizon.
