To help its athletes make advance plans for 2015, Challenge Family has set the date for its iconic Challenge Roth long distance triathlon early. The DATEV Challenge Roth event will take place on 12 July 2015.
As the organiser pointed out, ‘Thus we are – after the exception of 2014 with the FIFA World Cup – next year back on our ‘traditional date’ on the 2nd July weekend – of course with a good weather guarantee!’
All starting places for this year’s DATEV Challenge Roth in Germany, which takes place on 20 July 2014, sold out in record time back in July 2013. On Monday (22 July 2013) the online registration process launched at precisely 10:00 local time. No more than 2 minutes and 9 seconds later all of the available places for German athletes were gone. After 3 minutes and 15 seconds all slots for foreign athletes had gone too.
Challenge Family CEO, Felix Walchshöfer, said the response to the 2014 Challenge Roth event consolidated the event’s position as the world’s greatest long distance triathlon.
“No other race has sold this many slots in just 3:15 minutes, we’re truly humbled by the passion triathletes have for Challenge Roth and thank everyone for their support,” he said. “We so appreciate that there are many athletes who were disappointed and were not successful, and we’re so sorry for this.
“However, we hope everyone understands we are not able to make more places available as we will not compromise on quality by overcrowding.”
According to the Challenge Family, the DATEV Challenge Roth website had over 34,000 unique visits generating 98,865 hits when entries opened last year. With 65 nations in total represented on the start line in 2014 – the countries with the largest growth in entries, when compared to 2013, are the US and Ireland.
Including the world’s largest long distance triathlon – Challenge Roth in Germany, the Challenge Family series of triathlons now features 24 full and half distance races around the world. The birthplace of the Challenge Family, Challenge Roth now features over 5,500 athletes and 220,000 spectators and is home to both long distance tri world records held by Andreas Raelert (GER) and Chrissie Wellington (GBR).
Since 2002, races throughout Continental Europe, the UK, Australasia and North American have joined Roth. Together they provide athletes with ‘a new experience of long distance racing with a strong focus on athlete and spectator experience, giving back to the community while respecting the legacy of sport and being committed to its continued growth.’
