Coaching and management firm AJ TRi has announced that two-time iron-distance champion Jimmy Johnsen has signed a new sponsorship deal and will partner with Endura Sports Nutrition this season. With Endura Sports Nutrition’s headquarters and production coming out of Queensland, Australia, the partnership ‘just made sense’ to the now Australia-based Danish triathlete.
(The addition of Jimmy Johnsen to Endura Sports Nutrition’s athlete roster comes hot on the heels of the brand being confirmed as the hydration sponsor for the inaugural Challenge Gold Coast in Australia, which takes place on Sunday 24 August 2014.)
“I wanted to partner with Endura because their products are of a superior quality,” said Johnsen. “I like that they manufacture everything here in Australia, which means I know where the products come from, where they are made and I can trust what I am putting into my body.”
Now, at 35 years of age, Johnsen notes that every athlete at the top is looking to find the smallest of advantages and improvements – which was the catalyst for his move to Endura.
“I first met Jason from Endura a couple of years ago at a race and have built a great relationship with him and his team since then,” Johnsen added. “Having worked with another nutrition brand for most of my career, I had been hesitant to try out something new. But it’s all about finding any improvement you can.”
He continued, “Jason is so passionate about Endura’s products and thoroughly believed they would work well for me, help me take things to another level. I took the opportunity to test out Endura products for a few weeks of solid training and I haven’t looked back.”
Jason Stephenson, Endura National Manager shared Johnsen’s sentiment. “I have watched Jimmy compete on the Ironman circuit both here in Australia in recent years and also at the World Championship in Kona 2013. I’ve always found Jimmy to be a very professional, honest and hard working athlete and we are delighted to partner with Jimmy as his sports nutrition sponsor.”
“Since using Endura Optimizer, I no longer get hunger slumps when out on those big training rides,” added Johnsen. “And with it being low GI, I have a steady energy release and don’t have the highs and lows that I used to.
“For me the flavours of the Optimizer are not as strong so I don’t get tired of having it, and can consume the correct amount. When in a big block of training or a big day, we have to consume so many calories through liquid that if the flavours aren’t nice or are too strong or sweet it makes it very difficult to get it down. I have had no issue with this since using Endura.”
Johnsen joins a growing roster of world class athletes who choose Endura Sports Nutrition, including pro triathletes Jason Shortis and Tim Berkel, Australian Ironman surf lifesaving champion Shannon Eckstein and his brother Caine Eckstein, and surfer Joel Parkinson.
Endura Sport Nutrition manufactures its products in its own GMP accredited facility at Northgate, Queensland, making them safe for athletic consumption. Endura, as a company has invested AU$25 million into this manufacturing facility. The company notes that it does ‘not share manufacturing lines with pharmaceutical companies or risk cross contamination making Endura products totally safe for the serious athlete.’
AJ Tri was established by Jimmy Johnsen and his partner Aimee Minahan. The coaching and management firm was created to assist and enable triathletes of all levels ‘be the athletes they want to be, that they can be. Providing the tools they need to succeed both on and off the course.’
