Leading UK multisport business Human Race has a new-look Steelman event in the pipeline for 2014, with a new format and a host of different distances. All will take place at Dorney Lake, Buckinghamshire, the rowing venue for the 2012 Olympics, on Saturday 12 July.
The event is billed as being perfect for those looking to tighten up two triathlon disciplines, or who want to drop their weakest leg, as new to the event for 2014 are an Aquathlon and Aquabike option. The Aquathlon is a swim-run race, ideal for those who don’t particularly enjoy cycling, or don’t have a bike. Entrants can either take on a 500m swim followed by a 5K run or a 1K swim followed by a 10K run.
For those whose knees are starting to creak a little from years of hard training, the Aquabike is seen to be ideal, as it takes out the run leg of a triathlon and therefore takes some of the strain off the body. On offer are a 500m swim followed by a 10K bike – or a longer 1K swim followed by a 20k bike. This option may be popular with triathlon veterans who can no longer face the run leg after a gruelling swim and bike experience.
Likewise the event is also seen to be ideal for those who are looking to get into triathlon for the first time and want to concentrate on two legs with only one transition before taking the plunge into a full triathlon.
Returning to Steelman, there are Olympic (1.5K swim, 42.4K bike, 10K) and 3Quarter (1K swim, 31.8K bike and 7.5K run) triathlon distances to choose from. With the clear clean waters and closed, flat road circuit the course is ideal for those looking for a PB over accurate distances.
As ever Vita Coco will be on hand at the finish line to hydrate weary competitors and PowerBar will be there to fuel everyone around the course.
