Triathlon de Portocolom 2015, held next year on 12 April in Mallorca, Spain, is now open for registration. The increasingly popular event offers an early season opener in Europe with 55.5K and 111K formats and has a pro prize purse of €4,000, shared among the top ranked athletes.
More than 800 athletes enjoyed the 2014 edition, which was recognised as the ‘Best Triathlon Race of 2013’ by the Balearic Triathlon Federation and local triathletes. Portocolom is located in the southern half of the east coast of the Balearic island of Mallorca, about 70km from Palma.
This is again one of the earliest triathlon events of the European season and the double bike ascent to Sant Salvador offers up an interesting, and gruelling, test of the participating triathletes’ form and fitness.
Triathlon Internacional de Portocolom takes place in an internationally recognized epicentre for cycling and training camps for triathletes: Mallorca. On 12 April 2015, Portocolom will host the 18th edition of this successful and ever-popular Spanish event under the ‘55’ and ‘111’ formats (1K swimming, 100K cycling and 10K running).
Registration for Triathlon Portocolom 2015 is now officially open at www.triathlonportocolom.com with a limit on the number of participants ‘to ensure a high quality event for around 1,000 international participants.’
The organisers note that Portocolom is a great spot to start training and racing in Europe due to its nice weather in April, and Mallorca has great flight connections to a number of main European cities. Last year, athletes from 20 different countries travelled to race the event and enjoyed a demanding bike segment after a short swim leg in the clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
The competition is held in the in the Portocolom Club Nautic. The double bike ascent to Sant Salvador is one of the most engaging attractions of the race, among the scenic views towards the island and the southeast coast and the ‘amazing run from the old town along the beaches of the Portocolom bay.’
The €4,000 prize pot will be shared among the top three ranked athletes in both formats (55.5K and 111K).
At both the 55.5K and 111K races, the organisers will again aim to offer a high quality experience to the triathletes – with athlete goody-bags, side events such as the Expo and the Awards Ceremony and the TriKids Duathlon for kids on Saturday 11 April.
Triathlon de Portocolom is organized by Kumulus Mallorca and Club Triatlón Portocolom, with the support of the Felanitx local council.
