The Cycle Show 2014 – with trade-specific and consumer focused open days – is now just over a week away. As the exhibiting brands are starting to confirm what products they’re taking to the show, the organisers have provided an update on the newest TT/triathlon bikes that will be on display…
Bianchi Aquila
As a first time showing in the UK market, Bianchi’s TT-Triathlon Aquila CV carbon frame incorporates Countervail vibration cancelling technology. The bike’s official unveiling took place on the day of Tour de France final time trial from Bergerac to Perigueux, in Team Belkin’s warm-up area in Bergerac, on Saturday 26 July.
The new Time Trial-Triathlon carbon frame, with patented Countervail material, features ‘superior aerodynamic design and performance specifically engineered for time-trial and triathlon competitions.’
Pinarello Bolide
From the Greek ????? bolis meaning missile, for over a year Pinarello Lab technicians and engineers, in close collaboration with Team Sky, worked to improve the time trial bike that swept through the 2012 Tour de France.
Major developments for the aerodynamics include: the use of new airfoil tube sections; a ‘concave back’ on the seat tube; integrated handlebar; and electronic shifter controls integrated into the handlebar. Another important improvement is the stiffness of the frame, seen as a badge of honour for the Pinarello brand.
Dassi TT
The new Dassi DRC Limited II TT bike has been designed using ‘leading edge aeronautical design techniques including computational fluid dynamics, finite element analysis and design pragmatism.’ Designed in the UK, with UK manufactured parts, the bike frame boasts: aerodynamic frame geometry, a customiseable stem (IP Pending), and full internal cable routing.
Raleigh Aura
The new Aura Team bike features Raleigh’s speed blend high modulus carbon frame. The internal cable routing and brake position help reduce drag and the SRAM Force 22 groupset provides smooth shifting and ‘a genuine 22 useable gears’. The speed blend high modulus carbon frameset includes all carbon aero forks with hidden brakes.
Following a record attendance in 2013, the annual Cycle Show will again be hosted at the Birmingham NEC, and is set to be bigger than ever in 2014 with a new room of stands taking the show’s total floor space to 21,000m2.
Accessible to over 35 million people in the UK within two hours, the organisers note that the NEC’s central location in the country has been integral to The Cycle Show’s growth in recent years.
Opening its doors from the 26-28 September, The Cycle Show 2014 returns with a host of new stands and activity areas. The expanded floor space has also helped attract some of the best brands in cycling for cycling enthusiasts’ enjoyment, with exhibitors including Trek, Moore Large, Raleigh, Windwave, i-ride and ATB Sales all returning with much larger stands than last year; Extra UK and Paligap returning after an absence from the show; and Beacon making its Cycle Show debut.
