Now in its second year, the next outing of long distance event, The Bastion, at Hever Castle on Sunday 12 July 2015 plans to offer an inter club competition.
Rewarding the growing interest from competitors and clubs, the prize of a trophy and £250 cash will go to the club with the first three members crossing the finishing line. Individual times of the first three over the line will be added together and averaged to determine the winning club.
The only criterion for entry is that a triathlon club has a minimum of three entries.
One of the toughest long distance races in the UK, The Bastion, set for Hever Castle on 12 July 2015, promises a unique competitor experience where athletes can stay in historic Hever Castle and finish at the castle’s drawbridge. The challenging 3.8K swim/180K bike/42.2K course gives competitors the chance to race in the stunning Kent countryside and the chance to be ‘treated as a King or Queen by the passionate and specialist Castle Tri Series team.’
This year sees high profile triathletes such as Darren Jenkins signing up with the aim to compete in the Castle Triathlon Series Gauntlets (half iron distances at all five castles) and The Bastion.
Bastion competitors not only get the bragging rights of competing in one of the toughest challenges in the UK but also get a personal and premium experience including an opportunity to stay in the castle B&B, a free gilet, rucksack, t-shirt, hot meal, massage and warm showers after race.

With a stunning castle backdrop location, tough course and ‘an unbelievable race package for all competitors’, the organisers of the Castle Triathlon Series aim for The Bastion to become a ‘must-do’ iron-distance triathlon in an increasingly crowded UK market.
The unique swim has been hailed by some competitors who have visited Hever Castle triathlon before as ‘the best open water swim ever experienced’. The 2.4 mile swim course leaves from the Italianate loggia taking competitors down the length of the main lake before passing the Japanese tea house and heading into the scenic river section.
The 180K three loop bike course represents arguably ‘the toughest iron-distance route on offer in the UK’, with around 2,000m of ascent covering ‘areas of outstanding beauty’ in the High Weald of Kent before passing through Hartfield and over the Ashdown Forest.
The four lap run route is mainly an off road trail run. It circumnavigates the two stunning estates of Hever and Chiddingstone Castles before an iconic finish in-front of the Hever Castle drawbridge that once gave passage to King Henry VIII into one of his Royal homes.
