Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, was back on-board as sponsor of this year’s Events DC Nation’s Triathlon, which took place in Washington, DC on Sunday 13 September. This sponsorship continues the airline’s support for the world renowned race, and it runs hand-in-hand with Etihad’s sponsorship of TriYAS, which takes place in Abu Dhabi on Friday 26 February 2016.

“Etihad Airways is proud to once again sponsor Events DC Nation’s Tri and TriYAS, Events DC sister race, supporting and promoting the health and wellness goals of the triathlons’ global participants,” said Martin Drew, Senior Vice President of Americas, Etihad Airways.

“Etihad’s continued support of these two triathlons further shows the strong links that connect these two capital cities together, including their shared and growing cultural, sports and commercial ties.”

Members of Etihad Airways’ world class cabin crew will also be on-site at both triathlons. At the end of the Events DC Nation’s Tri race, participants were invited to memorialize their accomplishment at Etihad Airways’ photo booth where each participant was entered to win a trip to 2016’s TriYAS Triathlon.

As part of the airline’s support for the Nation’s Tri, Etihad also hosted the Etihad Tri Club Challenge, a ‘race within the race’ that encourages greater participation from local and international triathlete clubs participating in triathlon.

All Etihad Tri Club Challenge participants will be entered to win an exclusive package, including roundtrip travel on Etihad Airways between Etihad’s six US gateway cities and Abu Dhabi, entry into TriYAS, and free bike shipping — compliments of Etihad Airways. Two lucky winners will be selected from among all entrants.

Etihad Airways began service between Washington, DC and Abu Dhabi in 2013. The airline also provides roundtrip, nonstop service from five other US gateway cities, including Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco on to Abu Dhabi and the world.

Etihad Airways began operations in 2003, and in 2014 carried 14.8 million passengers. From its Abu Dhabi base, Etihad Airways flies to or has announced plans to serve 110 passenger and cargo destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Americas. The airline has a fleet of 119 Airbus and Boeing aircraft, and more than 200 aircraft on firm order, including 66 Boeing 787s, 25 Boeing 777-X, 62 Airbus A350s and six Airbus A380s.

Etihad Airways holds equity investments in airberlin, Air Serbia, Air Seychelles, Alitalia, Jet Airways, Virgin Australia, and Swiss-based Darwin Airline, trading as Etihad Regional. Etihad Airways, along with airberlin, Air Serbia, Air Seychelles, Alitalia, Etihad Regional, Jet Airways and NIKI, also participate in Etihad Airways Partners, a new brand that ‘brings together like-minded airlines to offer customers more choice through improved networks and schedules and enhanced frequent flyer benefits.’
