On Saturday 26 September, over 6000 athletes and their friends/families descended on the beautiful Harewood Estate in Leeds for the annual Brownlee Tri. The 2015 event was Olympian’s Alistair and Jonny Brownlee’s largest triathlon to date, with over 1600 registered participants.
Commenting after the event, Alistair Brownlee said “It has been a fantastic day for all involved. It is great that so many participants returned from last year, but it is also important to us that the Brownlee Tri is inspiring new triathletes. Over 30% of our participants had never competed in a triathlon before and The Collective Kids Duathlon was always busy.”
The free Kids Duathlon, delivered by the British Triathlon Trust, was in high demand throughout the day, with over 300 children of all ages trying out running, cycling and transitions.
The Brownlee brothers started the first wave at 09:30, with Jonny completing the swim leg for his team in the Corporate Challenge relay wave at 10:30. Participants took part in Sprint, Super Sprint and Relay races throughout the day.
Following the grand finish in front of Harewood House, participants and spectators enjoyed a packed Entertainment Village which offered a variety of activities, retail and catering options.
