Specialized Shiv challenges competition to slash its wind tunnel times

In Snowbird, Utah, Specialized unveiled its 2010 range of bikes. With limited numbers available, and Specialized’s websites currently yet to show the product in full, the all new Specialized Shiv made an appearance.

Specialized’s Shiv S-Works time trial bike is currently being piloted by time trial specialist Fabian Cancellara – the Swiss professional road bike racer for UCI ProTour Team Saxo Bank. The Shiv (slang for a knife or small cutting/stabbing weapon) bike is certainly designed to cut through the air.

Available to the public in 2010, albeit in ‘incredibly limited quantities’, the Shiv has a distinctively large front end, with a built in front brake.

Despite a large bulk-head at the fore of the bike, Specialized notes that the frame shape helps it reduce drag significantly. Specialized is so confident in the aerodynamic qualities of the new Shiv that it has openly challenged any other bike company to better the Shiv’s performance in the wind tunnel.

With the full bike on show in Utah weighing in at 16.3lbs (7.4kg), once confirmed, the retail price for the Specialized Shiv may not be so lightweight.
