Following recent restructuring, the International Triathlon Union (ITU) wishes to expand its in-house legal team to support the increasing activities of the international federation, including commercial transactions. ITU is now searching for a junior lawyer to be located at its office in Madrid. The position will be filled by 1 September 2016.
ITU is a summer Olympic federation, with its headquarters in Lausanne (Switzerland) and offices in Madrid and Vancouver.
Job summary:
- Review, draft and negotiate various contractual agreements, including: letters of intent, memorandums of understanding, contract amendments, subcontract agreements, services agreements, procurement agreements and requests for proposals.
- Assist more senior level professionals in managing more complex transaction work within a fast-moving environment.
- Assist senior staff in managing disciplinary cases, CAS or any legal case in any jurisdiction.
- Assist senior staff in administrative work linked to ITU’s Administration, Finance, and Legal and Marketing departments.
Key responsibilities:
- Strategise with Federation Executives prior to client negotiations.
- Nurture sponsors, and LOC (Local Organising Committee) relations to be most advantageous from a contracting and sport perspective.
- Advise, and consult federation professionals based on accurate interpretation of contract documents and the facts of business and sport opportunities.
- Participate in developing internal guidelines, toolkits, and packaged knowledge on various legal and business issues.
- Participate in committee and commission meetings as staff support.
- Represent the federation’s interests and interface directly with sponsors, LOCs and NF (National Federation) negotiating teams.
- Assists the managers of the federation in administrative issues, mainly in Administration, Finance and Legal; and Marketing departments.
The candidate:
- An active lawyer, or have a legal degree with a master degree in sport law, qualified within the last 12 months.
- Have excellent working knowledge of English and at least one other language (French or Spanish as a preference).
- All candidates must possess a ‘can-do’ attitude, a progressive personality and enjoy engaging with internal team members, as well as external stakeholders.
- All candidates should have knowledge of international legal matters.
