The new SCOTT Supertrac RC aims to stand out from the competition. According to a release from bike and apparel brand SCOTT, ‘When it’s not winning awards, it’s winning some of the most competitive, extreme trail running races in the world.’
SCOTT adds that its new shoe breaks some long lasting rules of the rail running industry. The 360° design of the SCOTT Supertrac RC lugs are inspired by football boot cleats, and are ‘taking the concept of traction to a whole new level’. With collaboration between some of the best skyrunners in the world and external R&D traction experts, for 2017, SCOTT argues that its new shoe offers the best traction for the most extreme runners out there.
The shoe was developed to meet SCOTT Running elite athletes’ needs. SCOTT notes that the attention quickly turned to finding an innovative solution where the shoe could deliver efficiency and confidence on technical and uneven terrain.
“There is no straight line in the mountains” explained Andy Symonds, world class skyrunner and part of the international SCOTT Running team.
After a dozen prototypes were developed and tested, the radial lug design was born. The combination of the 360° of traction with a wet rubber compound helped several wins in two of the most competitive circuits in the world, the Skyrunner World Series and the Ultra Trail World Tour.

Experts in the field of radial traction measurements at the Technical University of Munich have been a valuable partner in the confirmation of the design. Having designed the only machine in the world to test radial traction for football boots studies, SCOTT benefited from the team’s knowledgeable researchers in that specific field.
