The Hardman Triathlon in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland, has been awarded the country’s Long Distance National Championships for 2018. This year’s race, taking place on 25 August, takes competitors on a 3.8km swim in the lakes of Killarney, a 180km bike around the Ring of Kerry and a 42km run through Killarney National Park on ‘one of the most scenic and gruelling sporting events held in Ireland’.
The Hardman Triathlon was awarded National Championship status following a tendering process by national governing body Triathlon Ireland. It’s the third time the race has hosted the Long Distance National Championships, which was won by Ciara O’Neill and Brian Sexton in 2017.
Killarney in Ireland is accessible via Kerry Airport and Cork International Airport, which both are served by low-cost carriers from all over Europe. Kerry Airport is just 16km from Killarney. It is serviced by short, direct and inexpensive flights from Dublin, London Stansted, London Luton, Frankfurt Hahn, Manchester, etc. There are also daily flights from Dublin to Kerry International Airport.
