Challenge Family events in Heilbronn, Germany, and Geraardsbergen, Belgium will host their respective middle distance national championships next year. The German Middle Distance National Championship is to be held at Challenge Heilbronn on May 19th 2019, while the Belgian middle distance national championship will follow almost one month later at Challenge Geraardsbergen on June 16th 2019.
For Challenge Heilbronn this German championship means the battle for the national title will be returning to Heilbronn after the last edition in 2016. “We are so excited that we’ve assigned to do this again,” said the race organizers Kai and Rik Sauser. “We are definitely going to make this an amazing race and we will do everything we can to be a great host for every athlete.”
The last time the German championships took place at Challenge Heilbronn in 2016, Andreas Böcherer and Laura Philipp were first to cross the finish line in their respective categories and claimed the national titles. Kai and Rik Sauser are hoping that both German athletes will return to Heilbronn and ‘make it an exciting battle again’.
At Challenge Geraardsbergen it’s the first time the race will host the Belgian Middle Distance Championships. This race takes athletes up the iconic climb ‘Muur van Geraardsbergen’ twice.
“This is an amazing opportunity for us,” said Race Director Kris Torrekens. “It’s wonderful we get the chance to host this national championship. We are pretty sure this will attract some really strong athletes and of course a lot of spectators. We think this will be good for everyone: for the athletes, for the crowd and for the city of Geraardsbergen. We can hardly wait and are really looking forward to our race day.”
