Inaugural American Bike Racing Stakeholders Summit at USA Cycling HQ

The National Association of Professional Race Directors (NAPRD) kicked off the inaugural American Bike Racing Stakeholders Summit in Colorado Springs on Wednesday, November 6th at USA Cycling’s headquarters.

During the three-day conference, US-based pro and domestic elite road teams and key staff members from USA Cycling joined the NAPRD to discuss the future of the sport.

“The objective of the summit is to collaborate and work towards a plan of action among key top tier US bike racing stakeholders to help find more success in the business of bike racing,” said Robert Laybourn, President of NAPRD “The Summit offers educational presentations, panels and engaging action-oriented discussions facilitated guest speakers.”

On Thursday, November 7th, Lisa Delpy Neirotti, PhD, delivered a keynote presentation on finding success in sponsorship in the current digital age. She is an Associate Professor and Director of the Sports Management Programs at the George Washington University School of Business. Her presentation was complimented by an industry panel which discussed sponsorships and partnerships from their perspectives. This panel included Seth Fishbein, Head of Global Media & Partnerships, Cigna; and Chris Hill, Senior Manager for Entertainment, Sponsorships and Brand Communications at Mazda North America.

Additional facilitated discussions were led by Buie Seawell, JD, Professor in the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. Some of the areas of discussion included: how to create greater value in sport properties, supporting fellow races’ sponsorship outreach, and ways to grow participation.

“NAPRDs’ goal is to strengthen the vibrant racing scene in the US and establish new ways to engage with sports participants, fans and followers,” said Chuck Hodge, USA Cycling’s Chief of Racing and Events. “We’re looking forward to working with our race directors to build upon the tradition of our sport, adapt to attract more racers, and welcome a broader range of fans.”

The summit is a collaborative effort between representatives from NAPRD, pro and domestic elite road teams and USA Cycling.
