The 2020 Hotter’N Hell 100 Virtual Edition takes place on August 29th on ROUVY. The real-world race organisers note that the virtual edition on ROUVY features the same roads and group ride experience as the main in-person 100 mile event.
Billed as the United States’ largest one-day cycling event, Hotter’N Hell takes place on scenic country roads surrounding Wichita Falls in northern Texas. Though the in-person event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hotter’N Hell organization is inviting riders from all over the world to ride the virtual edition.
The route begins on Scott Avenue, just outside the Hotter’N Hell clubhouse. After its initial climb, it proceeds along the gently rolling roads of Wichita County before concluding out front of the Kay Yaeger Coliseum beneath the Hotter’N Hell 100 arch.
The event is open to all willing participants and there is no limit on who can take part. All riders who register at bikereg.com/hotternhell102 receive an official ride t-shirt and finisher’s medal.
“We are exceptionally excited to announce our partnership with ROUVY to extend the experience to any and all cyclists who love Hotter’N Hell 100, even if they cannot make it to Wichita Falls to share in the in-person event, this year and beyond,” said Charlie Zamastil, Race Director of Hotter’N Hell 100.
Begun as a centennial celebration event for the city of Wichita Falls, in which a few dozen riders planned to ride 100 miles in 100-degree heat, the event’s popularity has grown.
15,000 people usually take part in ‘four days of running, cycling, shopping and feasting’. Proceeds from the event go towards not-for-profit causes throughout the North Texas community and beyond.
