Fabian Cancellara is new Selle Italia ambassador

Former Swiss pro cyclist Fabian Cancellara has been confirmed as a new Selle Italia brand ambassador. The saddle specialist noted that this involves… ‘a direct commitment to the development of new products, up to the creation of a dedicated “FC” collection.’

The partnership will also be extended to all ‘Chasing Cancellara’ events and will havee a particular focus on supporting youth cycling through the Swiss Racing Academy.

In a release, Selle Italia noted…

‘Time trials were his competition-ground, and thanks to four-time trial world championships and two Olympic gold medals, Fabian Cancellara earned the nickname ‘Bern Locomotive’ which is sometimes replaced with ‘Spartacus’ in memory of the three victories at Paris Roubaix and the same number at the Ronde Van Vlaanderen, to which is added the success at the Milano-Sanremo in 2008.

‘The Swiss champion retired from racing at the end of the 2016 season but has remained in the cycling world as a protagonist of numerous events which bear his name and a project aimed at growing new generations [of cyclists].’

“There’s a common path that unites the great Swiss champion and our company,” said Nicola Baggio, General Manager of Selle Italia.

“Beside the collaboration for the development of new products, we will be present – for the next two years – at all the Chasing Cancellara events, and we’ll directly support the Swiss Racing Academy team.”

Cancellara said “I am really happy to return to the Selle Italia Family. After many touchpoints during my active career, it’s now a pleasure to work with Selle Italia to develop new, amazing products and to integrate Selle Italia into our amateur cycling series Chasing Cancellara.”

Selle Italia will be the official supplier of both the Chasing Cancellara event circuit and the Swiss Racing Academy.

Thanks to a calendar of five events, through Chasing Cancellara, the Italian company adds that it will be ‘able to get in touch with amateurs who compete on the most iconic paths of Cancellara’s career, and notoriously it is an audience of extremely qualified and competent users.’

On the Swiss Racing Academy front, the Treviso-based company will provide saddles and assistance to all team athletes: this activity is part of the support for new potential cycling talents, a commitment that Selle Italia and Fabian Cancellara share.
