Ö TILL X offering up ‘ultimate endurance challenge’ for 2021

ÖTILLÖ has launched a virtual racing project together with the XTRI World Tour. The aim of the Ö TILL X collaboration is to inspire, to motivate and to prepare athletes for a return to real world racing.

The two race organisers argue that… ‘this is a new take on virtual racing and a new collaboration from the creators of two of Scandinavia’s finest extreme sports events.’

In a release, the organisers behind ÖTILLÖ Swimrun, Norseman and the XTRI World Tour have provided some background to the new ‘Ö TILL X Ultimate Endurance Challenge’…

‘In 2002, unbeknown to each other, two teams, one in Norway and one in Sweden were dreaming up concepts for sports to inspire and challenge athletes; to change the face of triathlon and to create an entirely new way to move through nature.

‘Deep in the dark and foreboding fjords of Norway came a concept of raw and without-frills triathlon, a race of long distance, potential inclement weather and unrivalled toughness. At the same time on an island near Stockholm a napkin depicting the local archipelago was shaping the minds of others, who knew that this would be the start of the completely new sport of Swimrun?

‘Fuelled by late night enthusiasm and a little drunken madness, the Norseman Xtreme Triathlon and ÖTILLÖ, the origin of Swimrun were born. The evolution of these two endurance beacons is constant, with the race concepts reaching many parts of the globe and enticing thousands of athletes to race and inspiring countless more.

‘As we evolve and adapt to the changes of the world, the offshoot of Norseman, the XTRI World Tour and the ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Series have come together to add new challenges to the virtual space.’

The MyXTRI virtual offering was established in the summer of 2020. For 2021, the combined Ö TILL X Ultimate Endurance Challenge will encourage athletes to discover the race courses and race locations of the ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Series and the XTRI World Tour.

Those who take on the challenge will be given a new task to complete each month of 2021; to find and undertake distances and verticals from races in both series and to track progress around the world. Activities will be tracked via the RaceID platform

Each month Ö TILL X will offer a draw for a paid spot in an XTRI and an ÖTILLÖ race. In December 2021, finishers of all segments will receive a special t-shirt and will be placed in a draw for a slot in next year’s Norseman and the ÖTILLÖ World Championship race.

The challenge for February entails…

  • Do your best to clock up 1000m of swimming in February. We know the pools are closed and we know the water is cold. But this isn’t supposed to be easy!
  • Run the totals of the Engadin ÖTILLÖ run course (39.5 km) and the Swissman Run course (42 km). 81.5 km.
  • Multisport the height totals of both – use whatever means you wish, ski, cycle, run, hop! Engadin – 1499 m Swissman – 1980 m Total: 3479 m.
