The local organiser of this year’s World Triathlon Series Montreal event, in agreement with Triathlon Canada, has decided to move the event from the originally planned June date to August 13-15, 2021. This is in order to give a bit more time for the easing of travel restrictions worldwide.
In addition, the organisers of the 2021 World Triathlon Long Distance Championships in Zofingen have also announced that the event, planned for May, will now be moved to September 19th.
Right after the planned Olympic Games in Tokyo this summer, many of the best triathletes of the world will travel to Canada for back to back series racing. The week prior to the World Triathlon Championships Finals in Edmonton, elite triathletes will gather in Montreal.
The Montreal event will see the debut of the Eliminator format, with qualifiers, repechage and final. Unfortunately, and since the new dates are close to the Tokyo 2021 Paralympic Games, Montreal will not host a World Triathlon Para Series this race year, as previously planned.
The organisers of the 2021 World Triathlon Powerman Long Distance Duathlon Championships Zofingen have requested to postpone the event from May to September 19, 2021, due to the ongoing travel restrictions and the current COVID situation in Switzerland. The request, approved by the World Triathlon Executive Board, has the support of Swiss Triathlon and from the International Powerman Association.
The Duathlon Long Distance World Championships will follow the 2021 World Triathlon Multisport Championships Almere-Amsterdam, which are scheduled from September 3-12, 2021.
