Cycling coaching specialist Spoked notes that it has been quietly building for the last 4-5 years. With central offices based in Manchester, UK, and a UK distributed team of cyclists, coaches, developers and sports scientists – the company aims to ‘make it simple to train smarter through the power of algorithms.’
The SPOK’D cycling app is currently coaching riders all over the world for a subscription price of £9.99 per month. It provides a personalised training experience, where every week the plan adapts on four simple variables; planned vs actual ride data, perceived effort, sleep and energy levels.
At any point during the week the rider can adjust their time to train, and a personalised ride is crafted via the app.
At the back end of last year, the Spoked team raised investment. This allowed for a rebuilding of the back-end technology… ‘based on thousands of data points, rider feedback and insight.’
The company’s ambition is now split across two avenues to help riders with their training. The first is to bring to the market an improved SPOK’D app by this summer. The second is an ‘opportunity to collaborate with health and fitness businesses in a very unique way.’
White label adaptive cycle training
A new white labelled Spoked.ai app enables businesses to offer training personalisation to their own customers. Whether it is a media entity, event business, existing coaching firm or any brand that wishes to offer up coaching – Spoked notes that companies have full control over the data generated and can display the information to suit their needs and customers.
‘Technology plays an important role in the way businesses communicate and build relationships with their customers. If this communication is supported through the empowerment of personalised training it connects with riders in a real way.’

“Creating a personalised plan just on data alone, doesn’t work in the real world,” said Spoked founder Richard Lang. “It needs to be decoupled with other data points from coaches and athletes. This is the sweet science at Spoked.”
He continued, “People are used to a personalised experience in everyday life, from getting your own name on a coffee from Starbucks to websites giving you a personalised digital experience based on your previous visits and what you like.
“With training plans, people today really only have two choices: to stick to a cookie cutter plan or pay for a coach. There was previously nothing to bridge the divide and provide a personalised experience that has the best qualities of choice for riders.”
Spoked adds that, ‘By offering bespoke training plans, businesses in the endurance sport ecosystem can fully support their athletes’ fitness needs – whether that’s from nutrition, events, insurance or any related brand that needs to engage meaningfully with its customers. Through Spoked.ai adaptive training plans, all brands can create a point of differentiation and connection that is unrivalled.’
