For the Dec 2011 / Jan 2012 issue of H2Open Magazine, the publishers commissioned a study from MultiSport Research on the growth and trends in UK open water swimming.
As Simon Griffiths, Publisher & Editor of H2Open Magazine noted, “The results are impressive. We quoted the numbers, but the growth looks even more impressive in graphical form.”
Open water swimming in the UK has gone from strength to strength, with 179 timed open water swim events in 2011. This excludes the growing number of winter swims and informal open water dips across the UK.
Participation in these open water swim events stood at just over 44,000 in 2011. This is up a significant 91% on 2010. Findings from the research can be found in the Dec 2011 / Jan 2012 issue of H2Open Magazine.
