Following a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series Liverpool returned for the last time over the weekend of October 23-24, 2021.
This weekend’s event marked the seventh and final edition of the Liverpool event. The organising team reported that… ‘Over 10,000 eager Rock ‘n’ Rollers ages 3 to 77 took on the flat and fast course through streets lined with supporters, local bands and entertainment from start to finish.’
At the Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series Liverpool Marathon, Matthew Crehan (02:26:38) and Fay Hughes (03:03:08) were the overall marathon male and female winners.
In the half marathon race, Kieran Walker came home victorious for the men clocking a time of 01:08:08; and Emma Styles became the women’s champion with a final time of 1:16:20.
Marathon and half marathon participants received a tour of Liverpool City Centre. The route took them past the Liver Building, Liverpool Town Hall, The Beatles Statue, The Cavern Club, Goodison Park Stadium, Anfield Stadium, Penny Lane, Stanley Park, Prince’s Park, Sefton Park, and the Chinese Arch before the home straight on the promenade alongside the River Mersey, finishing at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool.
Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool Running Series and Race Director Dean Smith said “Since Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool first came to the city we’ve been welcomed with open arms.
“The runners, supporters, volunteers, partners and stakeholders have been instrumental in helping us create this outstanding event. We would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who has been involved over the last seven years. It has been a great run but sadly the curtain has closed on the final show.”
