The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is hosting the TOKYO VR racing 2021 day on December 12th, on ROUVY. Building on the momentum of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, the host city is being presented via virtual ride & run courses to the global athletic community.
A downtown area of Tokyo has been digitized and is now available on ROUVY, for virtual experience and events. The course is based on the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics Marathon course and is a virtual journey through the streets amidst the architecture of Japan’s capital.
- Bike routes: 10km, 42.195km
- Run routes: 3km, 5km, 21km
The routes have been published and can be found in the ‘running’ section of the ROUVY app, and also in the cycling ‘Cities’ catalogue folder of the same.

In-person on-site events
In addition to all virtual events, two (one bike and one run event) will be hosted in-person at the main venue, the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium Sub Arena, as guest stage events.
- On-site run, 5km (12:00 JST / 16:00 CET)
- On-site bike, 10km (14:15 JST / 18:15 CET)
The top three on-site finishers will receive a trophy and Tokyo Omiyage (Tokyo souvenir).
The on-site races will be streamed live on TOKYO VR Racing 2021 – YouTube in Japanese only. The broadcast will start 15 mins before the start of the onsite races.
Special guests
The online broadcast will feature former professional road rider and Olympian, Takashi Miyazawa, a member of the Saxo Bank team, as well as the Nagano Winter Paralympics and Athens Summer Paralympics gold medallist, Wakako Tsuchida, who will appear as race commentators. Other Japanese TV celebrities and YouTube bloggers will also participate in the race.
