A total of 17,600 runners finished the TotalEnergies Great Ethiopian Run in Addis Ababa. The rescheduled 10km event took place on Sunday, January 23rd.
The mass race which started less than ten minutes after the start of the elite races was set off from three approach roads. Waves of participants wore green, yellow and red t-shirts, the colours of Ethiopia’s flag.
22-year old Yalemzerf Yehualew opened her 2022 season in style by claiming a repeat victory at the event. In the men’s race Gemechu Dida took victory over former Dubai Marathon champion Getaneh Molla, with less than a second separating the first three athletes.
The Race organisers of the rescheduled 2021 TotalEnergies Great Ethiopian Run International 10km had to revise the finishing times for the elite races after finding a problem with their timing system.
The revised finishing times for the winners give a winning time for Gemechu Dida in the men’s race of 28 minutes and 23 seconds, and for Yalemzerf Yehualew in the women’s race of 31 minutes and 16 seconds.
