Beginning on January 22, and running throughout January, donations by the public to the USA Cycling Foundation’s MudFund will be matched up to US$40,000. This doubles the impact for USA Cycling’s cyclocross development and national team programs.
The matching donation drive ends on February 1, and the USA Cycling Foundation has a total goal of US$80,000 in donations for January.
‘Contributions to the MudFund provide year-round support to elevate athletes to the highest level of cyclocross. The core programming of the MudFund includes international racing opportunities, domestic skills camps, and holistic athlete coaching and services.’
The MudFund recently supported a team of athletes competing in Europe over the Christmas/New Year’s holiday break. The USA Cycling Foundation has also been preparing for the anticipated return of the cyclocross world championships to US soil.
With the 2022 UCI Walmart World Championships only one week away from its first visit to Centennial Park in Fayetteville, AK, the team is now asking for support to continue its momentum for US cyclocross athletes moving forward.
“The MudFund is having a profound impact on American cyclocross athletes,” said Jesse Anthony, USA Cycling’s Cyclocross Director. “The confidence, knowledge, and skills they gain from the support structure that the Mudfund provides are instrumental to their progress in the sport.
“When athletes are immersed in a culture founded on the pursuit of excellence, they respond by investing even deeper into their performances and their communities. This investment leads them to outperform their expectations, which can be a life-changing experience.”
Sam Noel, a member of the USA Cycling National Team, said “The MudFund has brought me to the start line of many races including World Cups and World Championships in Europe, allowing me to build my skills and character on and off the bike.
“I will be able to carry these experiences forward into the rest of my cycling career as I continue racing, and I’m excited to do my part to inspire and mentor the younger generation of riders who want to follow in our steps.”
The 2022 campaign is the third annual matching drive for the MudFund. The founding members continue to drive investment in American cyclocross athlete development. The aim is to inspire integrity, purpose, and leadership qualities within athletes. The goal of the MudFund is to develop the performance and character of the US athletes to lead the world in cyclocross.
