The XTERRA off-road triathlon racing season is heading to Xonrupt, France, on July 2, with the first of four events in the 2022 XTERRA Short Track Series.
XTERRA Short Track is an invite-only event exclusive to the top 25 eligible men and women.
XTERRA notes that, while qualification procedures vary per event, the majority of competitors earn their spot via XTERRA World Rankings status… ‘To add intrigue and value to the broadcast, wild card slots are awarded to local racers, young guns, and short track specialists likely to shake up the status quo.’
The first round of the fast-paced, made-for-TV format has attracted some of the world’s best off-road triathletes to the start line in France, including the 2021 World Cross Triathlon Champion, Loanne Duvoisin (SUI), and the reigning World Cross Tri Champ, Arthur Serrieres (FRA).
More than 5,000 spectators are expected to be on-site to create a track-side atmosphere around the bike park in Xonrupt. The organisers are utilising a number of wooden ramps and berms that up the action, speed, and adrenaline for athletes and fans.
The first of four events in the 2022 XTERRA Short Track Series debuts on July 2 in Xonrupt, France. This is then followed by races in Prachatice, Czech Republic (August 14), Zittau, Germany (August 19), and Trentino, Italy (October 2).
The action from all four rounds will be broadcast free via live stream. Fans can sign up here to have the live links from each event sent directly to them along with series updates and event reminders.
The showcase event will be held the day before the traditional full-distance XTERRA France and XTERRA Germany off-road triathlons, and the day after the XTERRA European and World Championships, dishing out a total of €200,000 purse to the world’s fastest XTERRA Short Track racers over those four weekends.
