After the successes of pro riders Thomas Pidcock and Demi Vollering at Strade Bianche in Italy, 6,500 amateurs turned up at the start of the Gran Fondo Strade Bianche Enel Green Power to follow in the footsteps of the pro races.
Mixing with the mass of amateurs, former elite riders Fabian Cancellara, Paolo Bettini, Mario Cipollini, Filippo Pozzato and Sonny Colbrelli were also at the start of the Gran Fondo Strade Bianche.
The Gran Fondo Strade Bianche has established itself as a popular amateur events in Italy as well as internationally. This is confirmed by over 30% of participants coming from outside Italy.
The jerseys of the Gran Fondo Strade Bianche Enel Green Power event were produced with SITIP garments and designed by Sportful.
In the amateur race Mikkel Videbaek was first at the finish line in Piazza del Campo ahead of Paolo Colonna and Giuseppe Orlando. Among the women, Annalisa Prato won ahead of Jutta Stienen and Samantha Arnaudo.
