Gearing up for the 42nd Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon

IMG has confirmed that the 42nd Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, is set to take place on Sunday, June 11, in San Francisco, California.

More than 10,000 athletes enter the random drawing for the event each year, with hopes of securing one of the 2,000 coveted slots. Attracting Olympians, world champions, ardent age groupers and challenged athletes, triathletes from all over the world will take over the waters and streets of San Francisco this weekend.

Now in its third iteration, the Escape from Alcatraz Aquathlon (a 750m swim and 5 km run) will again take place on Saturday, June 10, the day before the main triathlon race.

Exploring San Francisco, triathletes will embark on a gruelling 1.5-mile swim from Alcatraz Island to the shoreline of Marina Green, an 18-mile twisting bike ride through the Presidio, and an 8-mile trail run out to Baker Beach and back, while also encountering the infamous 200-plus-step Sand Ladder.

Fans can experience the race first-hand at Marina Green, where the swim ends, and the athlete transition area and finish line are easily visible.
