‘Team UK’ influencers drawn to world’s largest half marathon, Göteborgsvarvet

With over 60,000 entries each year, Göteborgsvarvet is billed as ‘the largest half marathon in the world’. The race runs throughout the streets of Gothenburg in Sweden, and this year is set to take place on May 18, 2024.

As part of ‘Team UK’ the Göteborgsvarvet organising team note that… ‘Four of the United Kingdom’s most influential figures in the running community are gearing up to tackle the iconic city centre course, asking UK runners to add this race to their running bucket lists.’

With its close proximity to the UK, Göteborgsvarvet offers an escape into Gothenburg and run tourism in the heart of Sweden, where historical landmarks combine with crowd support from an estimated 200,000 spectators.

Alongside the route, 50+ music stations entertain runners and crowds with an array of course installations that aim to create an unforgettable race experience.

Team UK is comprised of:

  • Lizzie Dimond, known to her followers as @runnerof4, an ASICS Frontrunner and the cover star of March’s edition of Women’s Running Magazine.
  • Leon Cerrone is a campaigner for men’s mental health and hailed as ‘one of the best dressed men in running’.
  • Andy Spalova, @Andy_andreka, is a Bath University student and represents a new generation of running content creators.
  • Blair Wilson is dog lover, athlete and Maurten ambassador, whose advocacy for autism awareness resonates with the UK running community.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Team UK to Göteborgsvarvet 2024,” said Eva-Lena Frick, Head of the Gothenburg Athletics Association. “Their presence adds a dynamic dimension to an already spectacular event, inviting UK runners to join us on this exhilarating journey through the streets of Goteborg.”

The half marathon course weaves through Gothenburg, passing two bridges with a view over the archipelago and the harbour of Gothenburg. Runners will take in the city’s parade street ‘Avenyn’, the Eriksberg’s Crane and finish the race inside the Slottsskogsvallen arena.
