Cal Tri Events has announced that ‘Divine Intervention’ coverage is included for all race registrations starting in 2025.
The national US triathlon event organiser noted that… ‘If a natural disaster, accident, or other incident outside of human control causes Cal Tri Events or a municipal authority to cancel a race in its entirety, Cal Tri Events will automatically refund athlete registration fees in full.
‘If an athlete would rather participate in a future race, they will be given a three day window to transfer their registration to any future Cal Tri Events race before the automatic refund is processed. There is no charge for the transfer, even if the new race has a higher registration fee than the original one. Certain restrictions apply.’
Thom Richmond, CEO of Cal Tri Events, said “Divine Intervention Coverage is a follow-up to the 2022 rollout of the best 15 words in triathlon: ‘free transfer or deferral to a future Cal Tri Events race as late as the day before the race.’
“Previously when a race was cancelled, our athletes were given a deferral to a future race. Now the athlete enjoys the option of getting a full refund.”
A release form Cal Tri Events added that… ‘Even with insurance coverage available in the 2-3% range, the triathlon space lags far behind with widespread use of draconian terms and conditions like ‘no refunds because the costs of the event have been paid out to cover various levels of production expenses.’
To illustrate how it differentiates itself from other leading event organisers, Cal Tri has pulled together a table showing how it compares in the US to IRONMAN, Challenge Family, PTO, SuperTri, USAT & XTERRA.
