British Cycling’s Limitless program exceeds expectations with over 5,500 disabled participants

British Cycling has announced that its inclusive cycling programme, Limitless, has now supported 5,551 disabled people to get cycling, with most participants reporting improvements in their mental & physical health.

This latest milestone sees Britain’s national governing body surpass its initial four-year participation target in just over two years. Backed by Shell UK, the Limitless initiative aims to make cycling accessible regardless of age, impairment or ability.

With over 600 volunteers and 1,000 engaged coaches, Limitless has helped riders improve their mental and physical health, with 85% reporting increased cycling confidence and 70% feeling a stronger sense of purpose.

The initiative supports clubs across the UK with funding for adaptive equipment and coach education, helping to reduce social isolation and encourage long-term participation. Feedback shows 75% of riders feel physically healthier, while 82% say their mental wellbeing has improved.

Amy Gardner, Sport and Participation Director at British Cycling, stated that Limitless is breaking down barriers and building inclusive communities: “Regardless of a person’s ability, bank balance or postcode, they should be able to engage in cycling and feel the mental and physical health benefits that come with it.”
