Playlist, the parent company of Mindbody, Booker, and ClassPass, has announced the closing of its merger with EGYM. The transaction includes US$785 million in new equity investments, valuing the combined enterprise at US$7.5 billion.
The investment was led by Affinity Partners, with participation from a consortium including Vista Equity Partners, Temasek, and L Catterton. EGYM, a specialist in smart fitness technology and AI-enabled workout programming, will now operate as a subsidiary of Playlist.
The combined entity now supports more than 40,000 Mindbody-powered businesses and over 88,000 venues on ClassPass. It also includes 20,000 EGYM Wellpass employer partners and 33,000 EGYM-powered fitness locations, reaching millions of users across more than 30 countries.
The merger is aimed at addressing a fragmented ecosystem of software, equipment, and member engagement tools. By uniting Playlist’s booking platforms with EGYM’s smart equipment and AI training plans, the company aims to create a comprehensive operating system for the international fitness and wellness market.
Fritz Lanman, CEO and Co-Founder at Playlist, said “With EGYM joining the Playlist portfolio, we can support the entire consumer journey end to end, from the first moment of inspiration through booking and check-in to the physical experience on the gym floor. By bringing together software, hardware, and AI, we have an opportunity to make every step of that journey more seamless, personalised, and effective for both our members and our partners.”
Philipp Roesch-Schlanderer, Co-Founder at Playlist and CEO at EGYM, said “We are now uniquely positioned to grow the entire industry by building a long-awaited bridge between fitness, wellness, and the healthcare market. Together, we are establishing the first truly international wellness technology operating system – running at a scale that will redefine health and longevity for the next generation as we make investment decisions for the long term.”
Based in New York and Munich, Playlist has over 3,000 employees globally. The company intends to increase investment in AI, personalisation, and operator tooling to help its customer businesses deliver more wellness experiences to consumers.
EGYM has been a provider in the fitness industry since 2010. Its Wellpass division focuses on corporate health by providing access to facilities, while its technology division equips those sites with smart strength equipment and digital training solutions.
