USA Triathlon (USAT) and Cold Stone Creamery in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, have partnered in a promotion to obtain donations of unwanted run shoes during the week of the USAT Age Group Nationals.
Any donated shoes will be given to Soles4Souls, a charity that gives shoes to the needy around the world.
USAT is asking the citizens of Tuscaloosa to place unwanted running shoes in a large 4-foot container in the Cold Stone Creamery at 1130 University Boulevard in Tuscaloosa. For every pair donated, the person will receive a “buy one get one free” coupon at Cold Stone. Donations will continue until the container is full or until 20 August, whichever is sooner.
As part of a prize giveaway at the end of the promotion, USAT will have a ‘guess the number of shoes in the container’ contest. Only those athletes who are annual members of USA Triathlon are entitled to enter, but they must first buy any size Cold Stone ice cream.
The person getting closest to the actual number of shoes in the container will win the following prize package from USAT’s corporate partners:
Rudy Project Ketyum Sunglasses+ 3 sets of lenses (SRP US$340)
Rudy Project Actyum Helmet (US$180)
ISM TeamUSA Saddle (US$190)
TRIGGER POINT Total Body Kit (US$120)
Halo Lane Gainer (US$350)
Total value: US$1180
