Following its roll out onto the UK market this year, PepsiCo’s sports drink brand Gatorade has announced the sponsorship of up and coming triathlon stars, Alistair (20) and Jonathan Brownlee (18). Both shall benefit from the scientific support of the internationally recognised Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) in developing personal hydration strategies.
Both brothers live and train in Leeds with the older of the two brothers, Alistair, in training for the 2008 Beijing Olympics this year. Alistair said, “I’m really excited to be working with the leaders in sports hydration. This long term partnership will hopefully see me fuelled through to major championship medal success.”
Gatorade has made a strong play for triathlon since entering the UK. The brand sponsors the Tri UK race team alongside athletes Richard Allen, Stephen Bayliss, Bella Comerford, Philip Graves, Chris Legh, Steven Worthington. Beyond triathlon Gatorade supports Chelsea FC and Frank Lampard (football), Brett Lee (cricket), Ronaldinho (football), Maria Sharapova (tennis).
In 2008 Gatorade UK has unveiled partnership with a number of running and triathlon events, including: The Fun-to-Tri series (Cheshire, Henley on Thames, North West, South Coast, Stratford, Trentham, Warwickshire), Ironman UK 70.3, Ironman UK Sherbourne, King Sturge Triathlon, Mazda Blenheim Triathlon, Mazda London Triathlon and the forthcoming TCR Show in February 2009.
