Kona steps up to sponsor Land of Yeti event

Extreme World Challenges has announced that Kona bikes will be sponsoring their next event, the Land of the Yeti duathlon, taking place in Nepal in October. The eventual winner of the 5 day, 150km high altitude duathlon will receive a Kona Kula MTB and a cash prize, with cash prizes also allotted for each stage winner.

The bi-annual race is run with the assistance of Dawn till Dusk MTBing (Nepal) and is also supported by Torq Fitness. It is the first ever duathlon to be held in the region and has attracted athletes from around the world, accompanied by a strong Nepalese contingent, all vying to be the first Land of the Yeti duathlon champion.

Competitors from around the world will meet in Kathmandu on 20 October before taking the 1 hour flight out to the mountain air strip at Lukla. After an 8 day trek along the Everest trail, the race proper starts in Gorak Shep, close to Everest base camp at over 5,200m. After 2 days of running a total of 50km back to Lukla, participants will collect their bikes for a further 3 days and 100km of mountain trails, crossing two 3,000m+ passes on their way to trailhead and finish at Jiri.
