The USA Triathlon (USAT) ParaTriathlon Committee has named Peter Harsch as Managing Director of the 2009 ParaTriathlon National Team.
Harsch, of San Diego, California, is a nine-time Ironman finisher with two Kona Ironman World Championship finishes to his credit.
He is currently the head of prosthetics at a major combat military centre on the West Coast. He has been involved with the Challenged Athletes Foundation’s Operation Rebound programme and has helped many of America’s returning wounded veterans get into competitive sports.
“It is an honour to be a part of this team that is making history in the sport of ParaTriathlon," Harsch said. "The dedication of each of these amazing ParaTriathletes is providing the path for triathlon to one day become a Paralympic sport. I expect each athlete will continue to inspire and motivate others to break barriers."
Jon Beeson, co-chair of the USAT ParaTriathlon Committee feels Harsch is the ideal choice. "Peter will bring tremendous background and enthusiasm to the team," Beeson said. "We are so lucky to have him on board."
The Accenture/USAT ParaTriathlon National Championship is scheduled for 26 July at the New York City Triathlon.
