EUROBIKE: big and bold in 2010

The 19th edition of the EUROBIKE show in Friedrichshafen was big, bold and packed with an array of exciting new product offerings.

After attracting 41,482 trade visitors from 102 countries (an increase of 6%), 22,300 bicycle enthusiasts who paid admission to attend Open House Day, and 1,732 journalists from 35 countries, the global industry get-together on Lake Constance came to a close on Saturday.

Bicycles for every possible occasion rolled into the spotlight and over 300 world premieres generated enormous media interest and drew large crowds of visitors.

The start alone was enough to set a new record: The presence of 1,100 exhibitors from 42 countries (68% from abroad) on the shores of Lake Constance clearly showed that the bicycle industry is an important economic force and its product remains overwhelmingly popular.

“The bicycle industry is showcasing in Friedrichshafen the entire range of products that it offers worldwide. EUROBIKE has once again impressively highlighted its standing as the global bicycle show,” said EUROBIKE Project Manager Stefan Reisinger, who was pleased with the many positive comments by exhibitors.

One theme of this year’s show was the planned price hikes on complete bikes and accessories. These were largely seen as inevitable by a number of bike dealers and distributors. Although, reported order intake from some exhibitors, perhaps held back by the economic climate, was seen to be more cautious.

A number of triathlon industry related offerings hit the show this year:

Having showcased its product offerings at EUROBIKE, Scott’s 2011 collection is now online. The company has rolled out the Plasma3 Time Trial/Triathlon bike developed with Scott Aero Science and modern day Ironman legend Normann Stadler.

PowerBar helped ‘athletes perform better’ with a line up of speakers at its stand in Hall A1 including Bert Grabsch and Dr Helge Riepenhof of Team HTC Columbia; and Ironman athletes Michael and Andreas Raelert. (PowerBar was also showing off its Natural Energy bars, which replace the brand’s Harvest bars.)

Official Ironman bike brand Ceepo launched the Peak road bike. For 2011, Ceepo’s Viper triathlon bike comes in a Shimano Di2 version, with a new internal cable routing option.

The Pinarello Graal was put under the spotlight in Team Sky colours. Also, showing new colours, Giant’s Trinity Advanced SL and the Orbea Ordu both have a new paint scheme for 2011.

Profile released the company’s new T3+ extension bars.
