Unveiled at Interbike 2010, Clif Shot (Booth #1953) has ‘dialed up the competitive advantage of its line of all-natural and organic energy gels with a revamped formula.’ According to Clif Bar & Co, its new Clif Shot boosts effectiveness, taste and texture in sleek, easy-to-use packaging.
There are 8 flavours variants, including new Citrus and Chocolate Cherry, to ‘give your body only what it needs for quick energy while training and racing.’
With a focus on performance, new Clift Shot Energy Gel contains up to 50% more electrolytes than its previous recipe. For fast-acting energy, the new gel combines two carbohydrate sources that work together efficiently – organic maltodextrin and organic evaporated cane juice – to deliver energy to the bloodstream in five minutes or less.
A thinner consistency helps the gel go down more easily. The new formula also enhances the taste of Clif Shot Energy Gel. Organic fruit, cocoa and other natural ingredients ensure that all 8 flavours ‘taste like delicious, real food’.
According to Clif Bar, its new Clif Shot Energy Gel has up to 70% fewer ingredients than other gels, which ‘can be loaded down with preservatives and superfluous additives’. What’s more, the ingredients in Clift Shot gel are 90% organic and 100% natural.
“When athletes are at a make-or-break stage in training or racing, there’s a big difference between nutrients they absolutely need to keep their bodies working optimally, and non-essential additives that just get in the way,” said Chris Randall, Clif Shot brand manager.
“Athletes tell us they want simple foods that really work, taste great and go down easily. That’s what Clif Shot Energy Gel is all about.”
New, streamlined packaging features rounded corners for carrying convenience and a smaller opening area for easier eating. The packets also feature a reinforced ‘Clift Shot Litter Leash’ to keep the torn off pouch tops from littering trails and roads.
As before, Clif Shot Energy Gel provides a variety of caffeine options for customized intake, ranging from no caffeine to flavours with 25mg, 50mg and 100mg – billed as the highest caffeine level of any energy gel.
The caffeine itself is derived from all-natural green tea extract, which has been found to improve endurance capacity, according to a study in the American Journal of Physiology.
Clif Shot Energy Gel will be available in sports retail, grocery and natural food stores beginning in November, with an SRP of US$1.29.
