A race to win the ‘hearts and minds’ of triathletes worldwide appears to be under way. The paths to glory blazed by the Ironman brand and the continued expansion of XTERRA, have spurred a number of new triathlon formats.
Hot on the heels of the rapidly expanding TriStar series, TriGrandPrix continues to build upon the momentum created by the launch of its 2010 events. Two TriGrandPrix events have now been confirmed for the 2010 season: Outrageous Half (Kent, United Kingdom) and Zarauzko Triatloia (Zarautz, Spain).
The goal at TriGrandPrix, starting in 2010, is to create a safe, professionally organised, world class series of triathlons. TriGrandPrix is positioned as ‘a bold, exciting and unique world class series of triathlon events for elite professional and age group triathletes.’
According to the event organisers, TriGrandPrix has attracted the largest number of professional triathletes to participate in the UK’s Outrageous Half.
Eneko Llanos, 2009 XTERRA World Champion and 2010 Abu Dhabi Triathlon Champion said, "What excites me about TriGrandPrix is having the opportunity to have a world-class multi-distance series and test my preparation and myself against the best triathletes in the world, in Olympic, Half and Long Distance events."
Jim Breen, CEO at TriGrandPrix summed up the ethos of the format. "We want the athletes to be able to enjoy the TriGrandPrix experience and have fun! Care will be taken to create an environment in which the athlete need only concentrate on their performance and not on event logistics. The TriGrandPrix team includes our professional athletes, who ensure premium athlete care."
The goal of TriGrandPrix is to host five events 2011, in five different countries, thus creating a global TriGrandPrix series.
