WTC opens 2011 Ironman 70.3 and Sprint registration

World Triathlon Corp (WTC) has opened the registration floodgates for a number of 2011 Ironman 70.3 and Sprint races. These include: the Boulder Triathlon Series (5430 Sprint Triathlon, presented by Amica, Boulder Peak Triathlon and Rohto Ironman 70.3 Boulder); Ironman 70.3 Timberman and Timberman Sprint; Ironman 70.3 Racine; Ironman 70.3 Steelhead; Ironman 70.3 Lake Stevens; and the new Ironman 70.3 Muncie and Muncie Sprint.

The 2011 Boulder Triathlon Series is comprised of the 5430 Sprint Triathlon, presented by Amica, the Boulder Peak Triathlon and Rohto Ironman 70.3 Boulder. A special Boulder Triathlon Series registration package rate for all three races is available.

The inaugural 5430 Sprint Triathlon, presented by Amica, is set to take place on 19 June 2011 in Boulder, Colorado. The 750 metre (1/2 mile) swim will be in the pristine Boulder Reservoir. The 17.2 mile bike course is mostly flat and fast. The 5K (3.1 mile) run course will follow the internal Reservoir Road toward the famous Dams on the east side.

The Boulder Peak Triathlon is set for 10 July 2011 in Boulder, Colorado. The 1.5K swim will take place in the Boulder Reservoir, located 3 miles northeast of Boulder. Wetsuits will be allowed in the 68-72 degree F water. The 42K bike leg is a course that has a little of everything as it winds through north Boulder County. The 10K run is a flat and fast, out-and-back course.

Ironman 70.3 Muncie, formerly the Muncie Endurathon, will take place on 9 July 2011, in Muncie, Indiana. Ironman 70.3 Muncie will take athletes on a 1.2 mile swim in Prairie Creek Reservoir and a 56 mile bike on the Cardinal Greenway that winds throughout rural Indiana. The race finishes with a challenging run around the south side of Prairie Creek Reservoir over rolling country roads. Ironman 70.3 Muncie will serve as a qualifier for the 2011 Ironman World Championship 70.3.

The Muncie Sprint Triathlon will also take place on 9 July 2011 in Muncie, Indiana. The 0.3 mile swim will be held in Prairie Creek Reservoir and the 15 mile bike course takes athletes on the Cardinal Greenway through rural Indiana. The 3 mile run features rolling country roads around the south side of Prairie Creek Reservoir.

Ironman 70.3 Racine will take place on 17 July 2011, in Racine, Wisconsin. Athletes will experience a 1.2 mile swim along North Beach in pristine Lake Michigan. Athletes then continue with a 56 mile bike through the rolling countryside of Racine County and a flat 13.1 mile run through surrounding Lake Michigan coastline. Athletes will compete for 50 slots to the 2011 Ironman World Championship 70.3.

Rohto Ironman 70.3 Boulder will be held on 7 August 2011, in Boulder, Colorado. The race, the first Ironman 70.3 event in the area, will bring spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains, a challenging course and strong volunteer support. Having an active community, with proximity to the University of Colorado at Boulder, the race will see enthusiastic spectators along the 70.3 miles. Athletes will compete for 50 slots to the 2011 Ironman World Championship 70.3.

Whirlpool Ironman 70.3 Steelhead, presented by Pizza Hut, is set to take place on 14 August 2011 in Benton Harbor, Michigan. The point-to-point, 1.2 mile swim will be in Lake Michigan. Athletes will continue with a 56 mile bike ride through Michigan’s fruit belt, which includes numerous blueberry, strawberry and raspberry farms as well as vineyards and orchards. The 13.1 mile run takes athletes around the Whirlpool Corporate Campus. Athletes will compete for 50 slots to the 2011 Ironman World Championship 70.3.

Ironman 70.3 Lake Stevens will be held on 14 August 2011 in Lake Stevens, Washington. The one-loop, 1.2 mile swim takes place in Lake Stevens. The two-loop, 56 mile bike course is moderately hilly and takes athletes through some of the most beautiful terrain in the Pacific Northwest. The two-loop, 13.1 mile run course will take competitors out of the downtown area and into the surrounding communities. Athletes will compete for 50 slots to the 2011 Ironman World Championship 70.3.

The Timberman Sprint Triathlon will take place on 20 August 2011 in Gildford, New Hampshire. The 0.3-mile freshwater swim will be in Lake Winnipesaukee. The 15 mile, one-loop bike course features rolling hills and beautiful views of Lake Winnipesaukee. The 3 mile run is a scenic course along Lake Winnipesaukee and offers views of majestic White Mountains.

Ironman 70.3 Timberman will be held in Gilford, New Hampshire the following day on 21 August 2011. The one-loop, freshwater swim will be in Lake Winnipesaukee. The scenic, one-loop bike course has plenty of rolling hills and several challenging hills ranging from 3% to 9% grade. The run is a scenic, two-loop course that travels along the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee and offers spectacular views of the majestic White Mountains. Athletes will compete for 40 slots to the 2012 Ironman World Championship 70.3.
