More than 40,000 industry visitors from over 100 countries attended Eurobike 2011. In addition, more than 20,000 cycling enthusiasts on public days and 1,800 journalists from all over the world were drawn to the iconic event in Friedrichshafen, Germany.
Eurobike 2011 celebrated its 20th anniversary this year and the event generated as much buzz as in previous years, with an array of new products on show. Although, visitor numbers, at over 40,000 in 2011, appear to be slightly down on the 41,400 trade visitors at Eurobike in 2010.
A selection of remarks by Eurobike 2011 exhibitors, released by the show organisers, do reflect a positive mood at this year’s show:
Yoshizo Shimano, Head Board of Directors, Shimano Inc:
“Once again, Eurobike has been very successful for us. The general atmosphere was very good and shows that the bicycling industry is looking forward to a bright future. There has been a lot of interest in our new products, especially for Ultegra Di2, our new electronic shifting components that will change the road racing market forever.”
Mathias Seidler, Chairman of the Board, Derby Cycle AG:
“We are very satisfied. Out of all the world’s trade shows, for us Eurobike is the most important one that we attend. We are pleased about the significant increase in visitors, dealers and pre-orders – both domestic and international. We have the impression that infrastructure problems have been corrected and that fewer consumers were present at the show during the dealers’ days, which is positive.”
Oliver Hensche, Director, Giant:
“Our stand was heavily frequented by visitors, from morning until night. Of course we are pleased and the mood is good. Our program is also well received. Demo Day has never been more successful. With 80 test bikes, we had more awards than ever before. For us, Eurobike is the world’s most important trade show and we plan to come back and continue with our work next year. Subjectively, we had the impression that the traffic problems had eased.”
Dirk Belling, Marketing Manager SRAM:
“We have been happily coming here for over 20 years and intend to come to Friedrichshafen for Eurobike for at least another 20 years.”
Tobias Schweter, General Manager Cycling Sports Group Europe:
“It could not have been better. This year even more was happening than last year and we are very pleased with how things went. The number of visitors we got on the industry days was almost as high as on the day on which the show was open to the general public.”
Reto Aeschbacher, Marketing Division Manager Scott:
“We hardly thought it possible to raise the bar from last year’s Eurobike – and that in every respect. The show was even more international this year. Eurobike has once again clearly established itself as the world’s leading trade show for cycling.”
André Bachmann, Head of Sales (Germany, Austria) Craft:
“Eurobike 2011 just went sensationally. There was an incredible amount of activity at our stand. Eurobike represents constant growth and the enthusiasm for the sport of cycling in many different areas is still very positive.”
Alessandro Colnago, Sales Manager Colnago:
“We were one of the first companies to show racing bikes at Eurobike, because we considered the timeframe and the location ideal – and we were right. This is where we meet all our dealers, that’s why Eurobike is the only trade show which we leave Italy for. Everyone comes here. This is where we get our feedback so we can plan for next year.”
