A record sized field is ready to compete at the 2011 Avia Ironman 70.3 Singapore event. Heading into its fifth anniversary on Sunday 20 March, the event boasts a sold-out field, a bevy of world champions in the pro division and 69 countries represented.
Over 1,600 athletes will be taking part, led by the biggest international field in the race history.
According to the event organisers, the 2011 race will feature all new swim, bike and run courses that are faster and can accommodate the larger field safely.
This year the race will encompass the Singapore Centre Business District. The expo, registration and functions take place in the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre, whilst the race course will encompass roads and trails north within the Singapore East Coast Park. The ride will head out through the international airport. (But away from the air traffic!)
The fifth anniversary Aviva Ironman 70.3 Singapore will be televised, with the coverage to be seen around the world. The race offers 35 qualifying slots to the 2011 Ironman World Championship 70.3, and is also an official qualifying event for the 2011 Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship.
The race is now formally the largest international triathlon in Singapore and is emerging as one of the largest Ironman 70.3 races in the Asia Pacific region.
2011 attendees will also more than racing on their minds with a ‘spectacular carbo party, unique presentations and the excitement of downtown Singapore’ where the functions, expo and packet pick up are based.
