USA Triathlon (USAT) has named Charles Baker, a New York City-based sports and entertainment mergers and acquisitions attorney and an experienced age-group triathlete, as an independent representative on the organisation’s Board of Directors.
Baker is a partner in DLA Piper’s corporate and finance practices. His practice encompasses all aspects of public and private mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and private equity transactions, with a core focus in the sports, media, entertainment and consumer sectors. Baker has represented buyers and sellers of franchises in every major US professional sports league.
“We are excited that Chuck Baker is joining USA Triathlon’s Board of Directors,” said USA Triathlon President Bob Wendling.
“As a lawyer and a respected mergers and acquisitions specialist in sports, media and entertainment, Chuck has the background and experience that the Board needs to strengthen our legal and financial capabilities.
“Our sport is rapidly becoming a force in the business and entertainment industry, and Chuck will play a key role in providing the required vision for the Board and, ultimately, the entire organisation.”
Baker, who is also an Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the New York City Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and a member of the Sports Committee of the March of Dimes, is a graduate of the University of Rochester and Cornell Law School.
Baker’s addition to the Board was made when the USA Triathlon Board of Directors met recently in Oro Valley, Arizona, during the 2011 Duathlon National Championship.
